To help Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust celebrate the 5th birthday of the Great North Children’s Hospital, Tusker and CPC Drive arranged a special treat in the shape of celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli. Jean-Christophe spent the day at the Royal Victoria Infirmary where the celebrations were being held, giving cooking demonstrations and joining in the special day’s activities.
Guests at the party included patients, both past and present, with their families as well as medical staff and VIPs. They were given three cooking demonstrations by the chef, who focussed on healthy recipes and even got some of the children involved.
Jean-Christophe stayed beyond the end of his cooking demonstrations to announce the winner of the competition to name the Hospital’s new Mascot – named Fudge by Ryan Wood, a seven year old former patient. Jean-Christophe said that the new name perfectly suited the giraffe character’s colour and shape and “Fudge is nice and sweet!”
Jane Gibson, Directorate Manager of the Great North Children’s Hospital, commented: “It was very generous of Tusker and CPC Drive to arrange for Jean-Christophe Novelli to appear at our 5th Birthday Party. He was a great sport and the perfect person to have there. The kids loved having the chance to get up on stage with him and learn how to do his trademark caramel swirls. He even took a turn in our stocks and allowed the children to throw wet sponges at him.”
Other activities at the event included an appearance by firemen from one of the city’s stations in one of their engines, a superhero and princess dressing up competition, while Staff also buried a Great North Children’s Hospital time capsule.
David Malone, Newcastle Hospitals’ Green Transport and Staff Benefits Advisor, commented: “It was a fantastic day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children and staff. We were delighted that Tusker and CPC Drive recognised the valuable work that the Great North Children’s Hospital does and they were very keen to support the birthday celebrations by sponsoring the appearance of Jean-Christophe Novelli. He was extremely well received, did a great cooking demonstration and really engaged with our guests. It was a pleasure to have him involved and he seemed to be enjoying himself too, as he was more than happy to stay on after he had finished cooking in order to announce the name of our new Mascot.”
CPC Drive, in partnership with Tusker, has been a supplier of company cars and salary sacrifice cars to NUTH for over three years.
